At Long Last...the UPDATE! (now we can leave NZ)

Your patience has been greatly appreciated as our blog has struggled through a bit of a drought (okay, our drought makes East Africa look like a rainforest). Well, we have now made up for the drought with a torrential downpour of entries covering our trip right back through September (i.e., check out everything after Bora Bora). We have back-dated all the entries to correspond to when we should have been writing them. As usual, please use the comment feature (not the email feature) in the blog to tell us what you think (we love the feedback!). This site will ultimately be a record of our trip for us to look back on and seeing the comments from friends and family is always fun.

This has been an incredible experience for the two of us so far and we hope that this gives you a little taste of the fun we’ve had. We may not have an opportunity to do full entries (with photos) again until we reach Hawaii, but we’ll try to send frequent text updates to the site on our passages (via the HAM radio).

Lo and Gary:
Received your NZ postcard the other day and enjoyed reading about your adventures in the limited space provided. Finally found the vessel name and April 21 position through searching YOTREPS and then the blogspot - Laurie's writing over postcard text led me to "souldemelza" and endless cul de sacs. Have only glimsed at your blog reports and pictures but looking forward to reading more fully.

A good friend of ours has been cruising the South American / Chilean cost the last few months and just rounded the Horn. Winds were light at 35-45 knots and the ride a little bumpy as we understand. The previous week winds were roaring through the passage at 135kts. Apparently that is when you set a third hook and keep a low profile.

We are meeting him in the Queen Charlottes in July to cruise and hike with a trip to Ninstints in the plan. We will lay over an extra five days in Vancouver so we can visit my cousin in Surrey and hopefully Edie and Don if they are around.

Looking forward to reading more about your trip - safe sailing.
