Windvane Naming Contest Extended

Nameless windvane Posted by Hello

We had half a dozen suggestions for naming our windvane, but haven't chosen one yet because we're still getting to know it. We do have some more information that might be useful: it seems to be showing some feminine qualities. She's a little pretty finicky and responds better to caressing than brute force. When she's on your side she's a dream come true. When she's not, well, it takes some strong persuasion to get her back on course. So, with that new information, we are extending the contest. Potential namers, please leave your entries (or support for entries) as comments (don't send them to us as emails, if you've clicked on the envelope, you're in the wrong place...look down below that). Those of you who sent us your names by email, please repost as a comment under this posting. Thanks!!

Hey Gary and Lo,
I'm glad to see you've been having fun. I could have gone for something geeky like Aeolus but given your description I'd call her Cleopatra (shortens nicely to Cleo). It's got history, some glamour, and supports both happy ("You're a star Cleo!") and angry ("Cleopatra Mann, you'd better adjust your attitude pronto!") moods...

Happy sailing...

Hi G ad L!

Wow! You two are our heros!! What a great adventure you are on, and what a great site for us to check in on you and see how you are doing, and to live vicariously through your adventure! What a thrill, we are so excited about your progress so far. Now ... to business, we're thinking (actually this is Michael's idea) that you could call her (the windvane) "Dame Elsa". Lot's of opportunities here ... when she's good "Dame Elsa" is a queen, or you can use cute short forms like Elsa, or Elsie ... when she's bad, then you've got "Damn Elsa!" ... you get the point (use the French version, almost sounds like Demelza, etc., etc.).

Well, it is just a first crack at it, and we'll keep thinking up some others.

Have a great time, safe and fun sailing, and take care!

Isn't there a 90's (80's?) song that you could have some fun with...

You're so vain,
You prob'ly think this song is about you,
Don't you?

Now surely you could work that into a name during your next midnight watch?

We're glad you guys are cruising along so well and we're enjoying keeping up with you.

Happy Sailing,

Mark & Anna.

Hi Gary and Lo,
Peter Nicholson here, not sure if you remember me at all but damn you sure have changed!
Well i sure am jealous of the 2 of you out there living your dream!

here's my suggestion for the wind vane:
NOTUS, The god of the South Wind, which is a very warm and moist wind. He is the son of Eos and Astraeus.
(You could also blame the thing for steering you in the wrong direction by just saying "not us".)

Anyway enjoy the journey, I will follow your progress from here.
